"THE COMIC BOOK KIDS "

This post was concieved for The Outsider Art Club theme ," Kids at Play." One of my favorite pastimes as a kid was, ..." THE HUNT." Before the days of the comic shop, a comic book fan had to hunt for hidden gems of saturated adventure. 7-11, Your local drug store, the Grocery store, Garage sales, flea markets , and the dirty stinky Nostalgia shop. Any of these places could contain the missing current issue or a past issue that would complete the puzzle and unlock the keys to the universe. My favorite of these was 7-11. A one stop shop for all the essentials. Comics, SLURPEES with superheroes on the cups, and candy , candy , candy.( ZOTS and POP ROCKS were my fav.) Many a summer day was spent with my two best buddies in hot pursuit of ,..." COMICS." Special thanks to my 2 best buddies DARRYL YOUNG , and my brother JAMES BARBER , for riding their bikes for miles on end with me to find the missing links.

Argg!! Pepe beat me for first dibs by a minute!!!!

That said, ..... I have a warm, fuzzy, tingly feelin' all over my body right now. Damn, I'm almost speechless ..... this is just pure perfection KB. You've captured it all; from our stylish fashions, to those tasty slurpies, to those classic comic covers of yesteryear. And that wonderous metal monolith called the comics rack .......Pure Brilliance.

Feel like I've just stepped through a magical time warp to my own personal "happy place". But fortunately, it was a happy place sharred with a great friend. Thanks.

p.s. I want a print of this, to hang in my studio.

p.p.s. You are once again, and will always be, the Magnificent Bastich.

Dude, very nice illustration! I am also from this era and you have brought back great memories with this. I remember spinning those racks 5-10 times looking for the perfect copy of the latest X-MEN (5-10 times just in case I missed it). Luv the Thing and Hulk slurpee cups LOL!
