What to do ? Pop art flat color or rendered tones ? Preferences ?

YEAH! First comment!

They are both great, but I do have a preference for the first one for some reason. Maybe I'm just too old school..

What did you use to colour them up?

Thanks Smook. I used Photoshop for coloring. If i do this same approach,...i'm gonna use Flash next time. I get more flexibility in shape , line , and editing in Flash. Cleaner shapes that i can bend to my will.

Kevin,

I definitely like the flat shaded one more. I think it gives it more life and a finalized look.

The only part I'd drop would be the dual shadow on Shazam's shoulder from Mr. Mind. Maybe a little too dark - maybe it could be the same tone as the rest of the shadowing. Anyway, it creates a focal point for me that I don't think I should be looking at.

The whole thing looks great though. If I saw this on the shelf, I'd pick it up! Great finishing touches and a very professional piece.

hmmmm...
Ahhhh, thats exactly where i struggle... making those decisions...
tough one...
Still a nice piece, no matter which one ya go with.
I like how it ended up.
Theres something about the flat color that i like. Maybe just the simplicity.
The shadows do seem to finalize it a bit more though...
Good luck choosing...
Oh yeah, for Gods sake fix that shadow will ya!

KB,
How could you make me choose?
You know I'm old school, so I'm goin' for the top by a slim margin. Love both of them in all honesty! You know with something this good, we will only want more.

p.s. ...Frickin' Sweeeeeeet! (had to say it) :)

Man....that came out great!!!

All that baby needs now is some zip a tone filters to simulate the old comic book look. And maybe some faux scratches and creases. Lemme know if you wanna figure out how to do that, Kev-o.

Hey Kevin,
These are great. Yeah, I'm leaning towards the top one as well. It was nice to watch the progression of the project. I'll keep checking back.

Man, this is awesome Kev! If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with the first one. I dunno, for some reason it just feels better to me. Your line work makes me sick, you talented guy you! Great work man.

Top one indeed. I was even thinking about replicating the shoddy dot print pattern the comics on newsprint had back in the day. Not really for shading, and not screentones, but pop artsy - you know what I mean.

Wow - whatta strange arch enemy. Neat but not somethin' I woulda expected comics in those days.

I agree with the shadow. My eye is pulled right to it.
